Graduate program in Astronomy and popularization of Astronomy The Master program in "Astronomy and popularization of Astronomy" is interdisciplinary and provides both: general knowledge in Physics, Mathematics, Astrophysics and Astronomy and skills for their effective presentation to different audiences. The knowledge of the formation of the world around us, the birth of the Universe and its evolution on a large scale and the evolution of the planets in the Solar system, provide a unique insight to the world in which we live, and determine broad applicability of acquired knowledge. The curriculum is free and contains many elective and a small number of obligatory courses. For these reasons, the graduated students from the program can find job in national observatories, planetariums, museums, centers and organizations to promote science and lecturers to non-expert audience, as well as astronomers, specialists in data processing, scientific and technical staff. The Graduate program is paid for the duration of 4 semesters. No entrance exam. The program accepts applicants with bachelor or master degree (of all subject) with GPA no lower than "good". The rating is done acsording to the GPA. The education is part-time and starts in the winter semester of 2016/2017. If the student has pass some of the course in the program in equal or greater volume at his previous education, the evaluations can be accepted at the discretion of the head of the Master program in consultation with the recent lecturer. In the first two semesters of the program, basic courses necessary for every astronomer such as mathematics, physics, meteorology and optics, as well as introductory courses of theoretical and practical astronomy are included. The second semester contains the course "Communicating Astronomy" and entirely practical course "Astronomical observations". In the second year of the education, in the elective courses are considered the historical development of astronomy, our modern ideas of nearby and distant Universe and practical aspects of observational astronomy and popular presentation of current astronomical topics to a heterogeneous audience. The Master program ends with a thesis defense, which must contain a popular presentation of current astronomical problem. Part of the evaluation is formed according to ability to present the subject in front of a diverse audience. |
