17.12.2015 NATIONAL SCOLARSHIP "FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE" 2015 |
For fifth consecutive year, the laureates of the scholarships "For Women in Science" were announced. The program is funded by L'Oreal Bulgaria in partnership with the Bulgarian National Commission for UNESCO and University of Sofia "St. Kliment Ohridski". Scholarships in the amount of € 5,000 are given to young women scientists with excellent results in science in order to support their research in Bulgaria and to encourage them to continue their academic career. One of the three awarded women in the program "For Women in Science" 2015 is Assist. Prof. Dr. Antoniya Valcheva from the Department of Astronomy, Faculty of Physics, University of Sofia. The scientific project of Dr. Valcheva, which will be funded by the scholarship is "Search and study of variable objects in M31 galaxy". The variable objects that will be sudied via long term light curves are cataclysmic variables of the types novae and Luminous Blue Variables. The observations will be taken in the Student Astronomical Observatory - SAO Plana, as part of the funding will be used for renovation and upgrade of the available observing system.
